Just returned from my first guided crappie fishing trip and wanted to share it with you. I love to eat crappie and wanted to put some in the freezer so I started to look for a crappie guide. I found Kevin at www.hotcrappie.com and asked him to make a presentation to our club. I thought that it would be something a little different. Kevin informed me he was not the speaker type but he was a damn good crappie fisherman; so I book a trip.

We fished his preferred lake, Granger; which I have never been on before. It is a shallow lake with over a 100 sunken brush piles, all of which Kevin has set up on his GPS. We fished a few spots in the middle of the lake but the wind started up and we moved up the river. We found the fish in about 18" of water just off the river channel; in one spot no more then 3’ in diameter we pulled 6 nice fish, unbelievable. We used a little jig with 9 & 10’ graphite rods with spinning reels and did what I called "doodle socking", just swing the jig in an opening in the brush and move very little, no bite, keep moving.

It was fun and the temperature finally got up where I could shed some of the cloths from the 44 degree ride across the lake in the morning. We were able to find quite a few crappie (filleted 15 keepers-limit is 25 over 10"). Kevin is a good guide and I would recommend him to anyone wanting the same experience. Thought you might enjoy this non-fly fishing experience.

Between back to back deployments and training up for deployments, it has been impossible to really get out and fish on a regular basis well, all of that changed today when I got the chance to go and fish with koobycrappie not only did we have a bunch of fun catching a ton of fish, I had the chance to have crappie for dinner and I haven't had crappie for dinner in about 18 months with all of the fixings. Man what a day! Kevin, thanks for a fun day of fishing. Normally I wouldn't post anything like this on a open forum but since he is about to get his guide service off the ground someone may just need a guide down the road and I would recommend Kevin. Hands down.

Kevin can catch some crappie. I have fished with him several times and we always caught plenty for the dinner table. I highly recommend him for anyone looking for a fun and learning experience on the "LAKE". He has the fastest fillet knife of any angler I know of also. Good job KC getting the brother on some Granger crappie.

Well guys finally made it home from one of the most fun -exciting -weather challenging -educational fishing trips I have ever been on.I owe it to Kevin super guy and Avid crappie fisherman. We withstood every challenge mother nature threw at us and still got a mess. Thanks for the hospitality and insite into trolling.I do have to admit that it is alot eaiser to have a cold one while trolling but you will knock one over when three rods bow down with a fish at the same time .Ha .If any of you guys want to learn trolling on a great lake with a great guide call Kevin -Hotcrappie.com
